DOE Announces Funding Opportunity for Concentrating Solar Power

May 30, 2007

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Program has released a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to address market barriers for utility-scale electricity generation using concentrating solar power technologies.

Concentrating solar power has been established as one of the most attractive renewable energy options in the U.S. Southwest. It has nominal levelized cost-of-energy targets of 7–10¢/kWh by 2015 and 5–7¢/kWh by 2020. To reach these cost targets, the Solar Program would like to establish cooperative RD&D awards with industry and universities.

This FOA includes three main RD&D areas:

  • Thermal energy storage
  • Parabolic trough component manufacturing
  • Advanced concentrating solar power systems and/or components.

For more information and to apply for the grant,visit Grants.gov. The FOA identification number is DE-PS36-07GO97028. To ensure that your application is processed before the FOA closes, apply ASAP. The application process can take up to 21 days to complete.
